Acclamation, the advanced handbell choir at First Baptist Calgary, is for those with strong musical experience and ability to sight-read music well.  This choir practices challenging level 3-5 music each Thursday evening in the Underwood Room from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.  Our goal is to touch your soul through the gift of music. You can hear us at the 10:00 a.m. church worship service the third Sunday of each month, as well at our Christmas Music Concert in mid-December and in our Spring Concert each year. We also perform at other events across the city. If you are interested in ringing with our group, contact the church office at 403-263-5911or the Handbell Director at 587-969-4926. Experienced visiting bell ringers are welcome. We also invite you to come listen to our weekly rehearsal.

Acclamation is happy to make your event a unique one!  We have played for weddings, Christmas concerts at the Jack Singer Concert Hall and  U of C Rozsa Centre,  Christmas parties and dinners, Calgary's Lilac Festival, historic Lougheed house, seniors' residences, elementary schools, hospices and shopping malls.  If you are interested in booking this group, please contact the church office at 403-263-5911 or the Handbell Director at 587-969-4926.

Our senior handbell choir was formally named "Acclamation" in June 2008. They have chosen the name Acclamation.  Acclamation means to express praise publicly and enthusiastically, which is what this choir does each time they lead us in ministry.

Celebrating Alberta's Master Bell Pioneer:  John Nelson Sr.

Handbells are a rich tradition within the music ministry of First Baptist Church, originally purchased in 1963 for the occasion of our church's 75th anniversary.  From the beginning 2-octave set of handbells (which was the first set of Schulmerich handbells in Western Canada at the time), our set has now grown to 5 octaves (C3 to C8), as well as a 5-octave set of Schulmerich handchimes (C3-C8) and 6th octave of Malmark chimes (C2 to C3).
