Dear Church Family,

Please take the time to read the attached letter from Dave Holten our church moderator.   As you have already read, in the letter, we are committed to care for you all, as a church family, and to be vigilant in all our efforts to provide a safe environment for our worship times together every Sunday. Instead of gathering for Sunday Morning Worship this week, and possibly the next, we will be posting sermons via video on the church website. We have also cancelled all mid-week events. This decision is the result of much prayer and careful consideration. Please follow the suggestions in the letter to stay tuned for updates and church information.

As one of your shepherds, I want to encourage you with the words of hope that we find in Philippians 4:7   “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

This is the message God has placed on my heart to preach this Sunday. Please tune in to the Church website – firstbaptistcalgary.com on Sunday (once the sermon is online). Feel free to share it with friends and encourage others with these wonderful words of hope in our Lord.

We are thankful to God that we have not heard of any cases of the COVID-19 virus related to any of our events, but out of concern for others, we are making this decision for the time being.

We know that God is in control and as a result we are making every effort to pray, consider carefully, and plan practically for our response on the weekends to come.

Please know that we are praying for you and with you all, as a church family. We are also praying for medical professionals, civic, provincial and federal leaders, for the worldwide effects of loving our neighbors through our actions, and for opportunities to share our Gospel hope and confidence in our Lord.

We truly have the greatest Good News in the midst of this fallen world.  Let’s pray that our friends and neighbors would have ears to hear this, and let’s fill our mouths, our social media accounts, and our lives with this glorious message of hope and genuine trust in Jesus our Lord and Saviour.

Pray with me for our services, over the weeks to come, that God would make the sermons we stream powerful in the lives of everyone who watches.  Pray also for me that I would have the right word to share on Sunday and that our community will see our sign and sermon title: “How to Find Peace in Anxious Times.”  Pray, that our joy and sincere faith will be evident to all, as we walk with God together.

With heartfelt love, in God’s sovereign hand,

Your friend and pastor,

Norm Derkson
